History of Alumacraft

 

Believe it or not, Alumacraft can trace its roots all the way back to 1893. Eugene Tetzlaff settled in Minneapolis after leaving Germany and opened a blacksmith shop. At first, he focused on making iron for construction purposes, but later shifted to airplane parts and aluminum pontoon construction for World War II. 

 

In 1946, at the end of the war, the company officially became known as Alumacraft and shifted its focus to aluminum fishing boats. The very first model was the 12-foot Model B and it, along with every model that followed, quickly propelled the company to success. Timpte Industries, Inc. bought the company in 1970 and in 1974, this bigger company bought General Marine Corporation, further expanding their product lines. Fast forward to 1996 and the company had sold over 500,000 boats and they’ve only continued to thrive since then. So much so that they’re one of the oldest and largest boat manufacturers in the US.
